Alternate Locations?
So, this past Tuesday we tried an experiment. We had a meeting of the group at a location other than the Volcano (we've done this before at the Meridian, but we don't organize those). I asked those who came for feedback, and we got a good mix of opinions.
On the pro side, people said they liked the club (Clark's Recording Studio) and they liked the idea of having live music as part of the event. A few said that branching out to new locations is good because it involves new people who wouldn't normally come, and gives the regulars a chance to check out a place they wouldn't otherwise go.
On the con side, people mainly cited the volume of the bands (it was impossible to talk over the bands, which makes networking quite difficult). Other also mentioned difficulty parking downtown, and the lack of drink specials.
We'll continue to do occasional forays into different live music clubs around town, taking those cons into account. We'll keep the volcano as our home base, because they've been very supportive of the group, and people know the Volcano as "the spot".
If you've got other feedback, email us or leave comments on this thread.
See you Tuesday for Mista White's discussion.

This week @ The Meridian
Just a reminder - this week's meeting (Tuesday, 12/14) will be held in 2 places, not just one. The Meridian (1503 Chartres) will host a musicians industry night (the Houston Music Roundtable is a co sponsor of the event). In addition, for those that prefer to stay behind and chill at the Volcano, Shannon Modrell will be holding down the fort. Hope to see you!

Meetup on Tuesday
Hey all - last week's turnout was pretty small. I guess that's what I get for forgetting to send the email! We had maybe a dozen people or so.
This Tuesday, let's make it much bigger. November is the month for Houston Music roundtables!! :)

Updates
Hey all - sorry it's been a minute since I posted on this news page. The roundtables have been going great!
Metal night with Drew & Melissa was great. Next time, we'll make sure to spread the word even further with some flyers at shows and such. If you have any ideas about what could convince metal bands (or maybe "heavy" bands is a better way to say it) to come to a networking function, lemme know in the comments.
Graphic Design night with Nino Batista was a hit - there were a dozen or so graphic designers present, many of whom brought their portfolios. If you're looking for a good designer, email me and I'll pass along their names.
The Meetup.com gathering was a huge success - there were over 50 people in attendance, many for the first time. If you're interested in sending messages to other musicians looking for gigs, or you'd like to give feedback about the meetups in another forum, go register at Meetup.com.
And this week's S.W.A.M.P. mixer was great - plenty of filmakers and musicians to go around.
We're working on the lineup for November, and it's going to be an exciting one - Dan Workman music will host a week, as will the Houston Chronicle and some other surprise guests. Stay tuned ...

Mohawk or Mullet?
Last night's mixer was a lot of fun. Devon and Elizabeth from Broken Record Productions held down the fort and taped short interview segments with a bunch of local musicians, who got to answer soul searching questions such as "Mohawk or Mullet?" and "Brittney or Christina?".
Next week, tune in for Mary Jane Hancock, hosting the Musicians Benevolent Society.
